NYC: Theater for The New City presents Where There Was Fire

Where There Was Fire
Directed by Ramiro Sandoval

May 2 - 19, 2013

Tabula RaSa NYC Theater celebrates its 2013 Spring season with the world premiere of
Where There Was Fire, inspired by the Greek myth of Clytemnestra. The play is an adaptation for the theater of the short poetic story by Belgian feminist writer Marguerite Yourcenar, under the artistic direction of Ramiro Antonio Sandoval. The music is composed by the internationally known jazz-star Samuel Torres. The production will take place at Theater for The New City (155 First Avenue, bet. 9th and 10th St) from May 2 to May 19, 2013. On May 18th and 19th shows will be performed in Spanish.

In a post-apocalyptic setting, four women each address their tragic relationship with a man who may have driven them to commit a crime. It is an exploration of emotions and interactions between people in a constantly changing social environment, as shown through visual poetry and the director's aesthetic approach.

"Where There Was Fire is a contemporary theater experience that explores the poetic complexity of women's love, passion, and emotions having Clytemnestra as a backdrop; a woman who has symbolized passion throughout history" says Artistic Director Ramiro Sandoval.

Choreography by Gabriela Álvarez Castaneda, Costumes and Makeup by Yosiany Simbaqueba, Lighting Design by Juan Merchán, Stage Design by Marcel Negret and Mark Marcante, Musical Direction by Boris Acosta.
