Voice Integration for the Singing & Speaking Voice

This workshop will focus on the development of the speaking/singing voice through body awareness and voice techniques.  Composed of 10 classes, the workshop is recommended for all those interested in the fields of performing arts, health, personal growth, and all people using their voice as a tool in their jobs.

The workshop will focus on:

• Through the Feldenkrais Method, participants will learn about their voice from the inside out. The lessons are created to expose how the voice works and how to make it work better by relying on the person’s inner sensations, own observations and own thinking as they go through a series of experiments.

• Voice integration explores some of the movements and sounds that we used in our childhood to develop our voices, and utilizes them to expand our vocal abilities. While introducing the main functional elements of vocal production, the lessons are designed to provide: a healthy foundation for extensive speaking & singing; a complete understanding of how the voice functions; a unique strategy for overcoming speech or breathing difficulties.

• By tracing and redirecting the forces that cause sound to issue out from our mouths, we will give ourselves the opportunity to strengthen the foundation upon which the voice is based. As a result, your voice will re-emerge with newfound confidence.

• Voice Techniques from the worlds of classical, jazz and contemporary music that will address dealing with performance anxiety, while working on the interpretation of an individual song and the basics of individual/collective improvisation.

Ana, the beautiful daughter of a once-famous doctor, travels to the remote town of Rosales, Puerto Rico – her late mother’s hometown. It was there that her father met and married her mother and opened his first free clinic for cancer research more than forty years ago. She plans to commemorate her dying father's legacy by converting their family's abandoned mansion into a museum honoring his achievements. With the help of the mansion's devoted caretaker, Ana begins the transformation only to be confronted by the secrets of the past. Her presence is unwelcome by the townspeople and the house itself, awakening dark forces that should have remained forever buried.

Ballet Hispánico, recognized as the nation's leading Latino dance organization since 1970, returns to The Joyce Theater for its 25th annual New York Season from April 16-28, 2013. Program A gives voice to a stellar trio of Spanish works: the world premiere of Sortijas by Cayetano Soto, one of the most dynamic and groundbreaking Spanish choreographers of his generation; the 30th anniversary-and Company premiere-of Jardi Tancat, the award-winning work that launched Nacho Duato's career; and the Joyce premiere of A vueltas con los ochenta by the cutting-edge duo Inma García and Meritxell Barberá, which explores the "Movida Madrileña" against the backdrop of 1980s Europop.

Program B jewels include Argentinean Alejandro Cervera's Tango Vitrola, along with Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro's Danzón, set to live music by Latin Jazz legend Paquito D'Rivera. The return of audience favorite Nube Blanco is a flamenco-inspired treat to behold.

Jardi Tancat (1983) - 30^th ANNIVERSARY AND COMPANY PREMIERE

Choreography by Nacho Duato

Duato's very first work, based on Catalonian folk tales sung by Maria del Mar Bonet, won him first prize at the International Choreographic Workshop in Cologne. With equal shades of passion and melancholy, the ballet evokes the despairing yet hopeful prayers of Spaniards who wait for rain on their barren land.

A vueltas con los ochenta (2012) - JOYCE PREMIERE

Choreography by Inma García and Meritxell Barberá

García and Barberá's first work for Ballet Hispanico uses contemporary dance to evoke the sights and sounds of the cultural revolution in 1980s Madrid known as "La Movida." Drawing upon that time's need for creative expression and individuality, the work recreates the memory of one night of freedom, exploration, and invention lived by a young group of friends.

Danzón with live music by the Paquito D'Rivera Ensemble (2009) - JOYCE PREMIERE

Initially evolved from Haitian contradance, the Danzón has been called the official dance of Cuba. Eduardo Vilaro has taken this traditional and quintessentially Cuban dance form and reinvented it with contemporary language to construct a joyous celebration of music and movement.

Tango Vitrola (1987) - JOYCE PREMIERE Choreography by Alejandro Cervera

Tango Vitrola conjures a metaphysical space that highlights the struggle between men and women through simple yet poetic patterns. 

Nube Blanco (2009) Choreography by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa

Nube Blanco (White Cloud) is inspired by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's childhood memories of the beautiful songs of Maria Dolores Pradera. Lopez Ochoa brilliantly integrates the Spanish zapateado footwork that is found in flamenco dance and gives it a contemporary twist.

Ancestral West African musical traditions take center stage with Bodoma Garífuna Cultural Band. Hailing from Honduras, Bronx-based Bodoma's energetic performance style has at its center a three-drum ensemble and a wide array of traditional percussion instruments. Their participatory call-and-response vocals echo sacred invocations of the spirits of nature. Gariífuna heritage is unique in almost every sense. Slavery played a minor part in the history of the Garífunas, allowing them to retain and further develop traditional customs with unparalleled integrity.

QUINTETO LATINO - SATURDAY, MARCH 16 @ 8:00 PM

Founded in 2004 by French hornist Armando Castellano, Quinteto Latino is devoted to performing with world-class artistry in communities not often served by classical musicians. Championing younger and lesser-known composers of Latino heritage, the group expands the boundaries of classical music, inspiring new generations of players and audiences. For its featured MIM2013 residency and concert, QL and  pairs up with composer GUILLERMO GALINDO for the NY premiere of Voces del Desierto/Voices of the Desert. The compositions honor the many unnamed immigrants who cross the U.S.-Mexico border. The concert features video, traditional wind instruments, and fantastical hand-made instruments created from personal belongings found at the border.

NY PREMIERE ● NPN Commission Join us for the world premiere of Grados Inefables, a 45-minute chamber music work for piano and string quartet by Pregones' resident composer Desmar Guevara. Each of the four movements alludes to gradual pursuit of enlightenment and esoteric knowledge of Freemasonry. "Masonry is a succession of allegories, the mere vehicles of great lessons in morality and philosophy. You will more fully appreciate its spirit, its object, its purposes, as you advance in the different Degrees, which you will find constitute a great, complete, and harmonious system." - Albert Pike. Repertorio Español announces the winners of the 2012 METLIFE NUESTRAS VOCES NATIONAL PLAYWRITING COMPETITION

Barceló con hielo (Barceló on the Rocks) by Dominican-American playwright Marco Antonio Rodríguez took first place. The playwright will receive a cash award of $3,000 and the play will receive a full production at Repertorio in 2014.

Now on its 14th edition, MetLife Nuestras Voces has brought awareness to dozens of Latino plays and playwrights throughout the nation. The competition is responsible for the production of 13 plays at Repertorio Español. In addition, many of the competition’s finalists have gone on to receive readings, workshops and full productions at theaters such as Second Stage, Teatro Vista in Chicago and Signature Theatre in Virginia. Playwrights have subsequently received fellowships and residencies at companies such as The Public Theatre in New York and Goodman Theatre in Chicago, respectively. Playwrights that have participated in the competition have won ACE and HOLA Awards (Lina Gallegos, Carlos Lacámara, and Jorge González) and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (Quiara Alegría Hudes). The competition has distributed $100,000 in cash awards to Latino playwrights.

Over the course of 14 years, the MetLife Nuestras Voces Competition has been responsible for 13 original productions, garnered 16 ACE & HOLA Awards, given 58 cash awards, presented dozens of staged readings, and produced a professional DVD of Silvia González’s “Boxcar.” Most recently, with the support of MetLife Foundation, Repertorio Español and NoPassport Press published two bilingual anthologies of five winning plays emerging from the competition.

The premiere will be followed by a reception in honor of the competition’s 13^th Anniversary and the launch of the anthology.

About Marco Antonio Rodríguez:

Marco Antonio Rodríguez is a Dominican-American playwright, actor, director and producer born and raised in New York City. Mr. Rodríguez graduated from the Fiorello H. La Guardia High School of Performing Arts and holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University.  His plays include Pico de gallo; Dios nos libre (Heaven Forbid(s)!,), which was named Outstanding New Play by The Texas Theater Critics Forum; and La luz de un cigarillo (Ashes of Light,) which received 5 HOLA and 4 ACE Awards, including Best Play and Best Direction, during its extended run at LATEA Theater and Lehman Stages in New York. La luz de un cigarrillo was recently published by NoPassport Press in Spanish and English. His screenplays Silencio (Silence,) Mariscal (Marshall,) and Kennedy in a Box all won 1^st Place in NYC’s Midnight Screenplay Competitions in separate years. In addition, Silencio (Silence) won Best Dramatic Short at the Action On Film Festival in Pasadena, CA and was an official selection at the SoCal Film Festival in Huntington Beach, CA and a finalist in the prestigious Creative World Awards. Mariscal was also a finalist in the Slamdance Writing Competition. Mr. Rodríguez’s directing credits include the South West premiere of Rick Najera’s Latinologues at the Undermain Theatre and the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas; Pico de gallo at the Ice House Cultural Center (IHCC) in Dallas; “La luz de un cigarrillo” at Teatro LATEA in New York, and Dios nos libre at IHCC and at the New Jazz Space Theater in New York as part of the (International Fringe Festival). Mr. Rodríguez resides in San Antonio, Texas and is a guest writer for Latino Leaders Magazine.

Teatro Latea: A Little Sugar for The Heart

El Union City Performing Arts Center en conjunto con Procreart, Inc. se complacen en presentar a La Compañía de Comedias de Cecill Villar en  Made in Guasmo, la obra cumbre del dramaturgo ecuatoriano Félix Andrés Martínez. 

Si hay un "Made in USA", "Made in France", "Made in Italy", ¿por qué no un Made in Guasmo?  La sensacional comedia muestra un lado más de nuestra gente; puede pasar en cualquier lugar y hasta en su propio país

En esta divertidísima comedia, con carácter de crítica social,  se muestra lo que se desarrolla en un barrio periférico y pobre, donde las gentes tratan de sobrevivir a las carencias de la vida. Una típica familia pobre trata de demostrar lo contrario y piensa que casando a su hija con un gringo millonario se solucionarían sus problemas.

Una madre dominante, un padre no muy hábil, una hija sin personalidad y una empleada, que como en los clásicos, pone el dedo en la llaga conforman un cóctel muy divertido. 

Venga a reir de principio a fin con esta comedia y con las primeras figuras: Edison Carrera, Franco Galecio, Stalin Cando, Paola Myerstone, y Jesús Martínez

Teatro Soy abre en el Alto Manhattan

El 13 de Febrero de 2013 abre sus puertas el Teatro Soy, con un Opening para el disfrute de todos.

El Teatro Soy tiene como objetivo comprometerse con los grupos étnicos para consolidar las culturas con su “Arte, Esfuerzo y Dedicación”, como expone su slogan. Su misión es producir, promover y difundir el arte, dentro y fuera del país, con la finalidad de acrecentar los conocimientos y al mismo tiempo servirles de plataforma a los nuevos y antiguos talentos.

     

Soy  tiene la capacidad de albergar a 52 espectadores, con un stage que mide 19 de ancho y 11 de largo. Estará a disposición de todos, si desean alquilarlo, para celebrar distintos eventos artísticos como presentaciones de obras, conferencias, reuniones, ensayos, entre otros.

    

La estructura organizacional está compuesta por Saarah Medrano como Directora Ejecutiva, Jany Montandon (Asistente Administrativa), José Cruz (Director Operativo), Eddy Jiménez (Técnico) y Rafael Peralta (Asesor Artístico), entre otros colaboradores.

    

La actividad se realizará el Miércoles 13 de febrero del presente año, dando inicio a las 7:15pm y tendrá lugar en el 4111 de Broadway, 2do piso. New York. NY,  entre las calles 173 y 174. A este acontecimiento asistirá la prensa, miembros de distintas organizaciones comunitarias y artísticas y el público en general.

   

Este día, el Teatro Soy presentará una danza llamada Festejo con la agrupación Fuerza Peruana,  Chavela un unipersonal interpretado por la actriz Aida Álvarez y el buen humor del comediante Rafael Peralta mejor conocido como Podalirio El Chévere. Para cerrar con broche de oro habrá un coctel y la ambientación de un solo de piano. 

San Juan, PR: Noches de Peña en Homenaje a Violeta Parra

A 46 años de la desaparición de una de las grandes compositoras y artistas latinoamericanas, la Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular (FNCP) y el grupo Tepeu presentan su segunda Peña del año titulada Noches de Peña: Homenaje a Violeta Parra, a celebrarse el sábado, 9 de febrero de 2013, a las 8:00pm en la FNCP, ubicado en la calle Fortaleza del Viejo San Juan, núm. 56.

Esta Peña contará con el regreso a la FNCP del reconocido cantautor Américo Boschetti, el poeta y músico Sergio Negrón, el cantautor puertorriqueño Emanuel Emilio y la música folklórica latinoamericana y andina del grupo Tepeu, quienes estarán rindiendo un homenaje musical a Violeta Parra.

Las Noches de Peña proponen el revivir las noches de café-teatro -conocidas en Latinoamérica como “peñas”- en donde artistas de todos los estilos se reunían bajo un mismo techo y ofrecían un concierto variado y al estilo bohémico, folklórico, poético y declamativo.

El grupo Tepeu, pioneros en la creación de este tipo de actividad, ha reunido a más de 50 artistas de Puerto Rico y el extranjero bajo el mismo camino de rescatar y dar fortaleza actividades culturales que sean accesibles a todo tipo de público y gustos.

El público podrá disfrutar de las Peñas todos los segundos sábados de cada mes, con una gran diversidad de artistas y estilos en cada noche. También los seguidores de las Peñas podrán disfrutar de las mismas en vivo, vía internet, bajo el enlace www.tepeu.org.

La actividad tiene un costo de $10.00 dólares por persona, tiene espacios limitados y está abierta para el público en general. En la misma podrán disfrutar de un menú de tapas y bebidas que la FNCP ofrece en cada Peña. También podrán adquirir las producciones discográficas de todos los artistas que se presentarán en esta actividad.

Caracas: presentación de la Asociación Venezolana de Crítica Teatral AVENCRIT.

A continuación, la invitación al encuentro con los miembros de la Asociación Venezolana de Crítica Teatral AVENCRIT, excelente iniciativa para calibrar los alcances del teatro venezolano.

Esta es una invitación especial que te hacemos para que asistas a nuestro encuentro con los medios de comunicación social con motivo del  inicio de actividades de la Asociación Venezolana de Crítica Teatral AVENCRIT.

La presentación formal de nuestra organización se llevará a cabo en rueda de prensa el día jueves, 07 de febrero de 2013, a las 10:00 a.m. en la sede del Laboratorio Teatral Anna Julia Rojas, ubicado en la Avenida México cerca de la Estación de  Metro Bellas Artes,  al  lado de la entrada del estacionamiento del Hotel Alba Caracas.

AVENCRIT es una naciente organización que tiene como principal objetivo agremiar a críticos, escritores, periodistas, dramaturgos y creadores en general dedicados al impulso e investigación de las artes escénicas nacionales.
