Traveling Theater announce events in this year’s MARCH IS MUSIC series, from
Wednesday, March 1st, through Saturday, March 28th, in
The Bronx. Classical, Afrobeat,
Tango, Latin Jazz, Jazz, and Pop artists make this month-long program one of
the most explosive musical experiences to be had in all of New York City. Eight
headliner concerts, three artist residencies, and three Meet-The-Artist matinees

NOW ENSEMBLE – NOW
Ensemble is dedicated to making new chamber music for the 21st century, shaking
up the classical tradition by tapping into the eclectic musical backgrounds of members
who have worked with The National, Bang On a Can, eighth blackbird, and more! Presented in
collaboration with Carnegie Hall and the Weill Music Institute. The Carnegie
Hall Neighborhood Concert Series is sponsored by Target®.
UNDEGROUND
SYSTEM –
Bubbling up out of BKNY, and inspired by Fela Kuti and the West African
pioneered Afrobeat aesthetic, Underground System have since carved out a niche
uniquely their own: freaky, dancey, multi-cultural, somewhere between militant
and carefree, punk rock and slinky grooves, graceful dance and reckless
abandonment.
NELSON OJEDA – From Gershwin to
Beethoven, Nelson Ojeda’s gifted musicality and ease make him a must-see
pianist! Solo recitals include Debussy’s 150th Anniversary at
Symphony Space, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Steinway Hall in Los Angeles,
and Fundación Juan March in Madrid. His chamber concerts repertoire
include the rare two-piano version of Stravinsky’s Le Sacré du Printemps, with Susan Svrcek.
NY TANGO SEXTET – Led by violinist
Sergio Reyes, the energetic NYTS distills bravado and romance in equal measure,
opening ground for a new generation of musicianship and the next wave of tango
fever! Also featuring violinist Ina Paris, bandoneonists Emmanuel Trifilio and
Rodolfo Zanetti, pianist Emilio Teubal, and bassist Pedro Giraudo.
ARIACNE TRUJILLO – Ariacne
Trujillo began her career as a child prodigy concert pianist in her native
Cuba, where she trained at the world-renowned ISA conservatory, and went on to
steal the spotlight as singer and dancer at the legendary Cabaret Tropicana. In
New York, her credits include greats like Paul Simon and Paquito d’Rivera, and
new stars like Pedrito Martínez. She’s equally known for her unstoppable groove
at the keyboard and her powerful, endlessly flexible voice.
PAPO VÁZQUEZ QUARTET – Papo Vázquez & His Mighty Pirates Troubadours sail
out towards new horizons with their wildly inventive exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s universally
acclaimed Goldberg Variations.
Explosive and memorable, this is Bach like you never heard before, in arrangements
for trombone, bass, piano, and saxophone!
LUIS PERDOMO – A native of
Venezuela, pianist Luis Perdomo has collaborated and performed with top names
in jazz and Latin jazz including Ravi Coltrane, Ray Barretto, Brian Lynch,
David Sanchez, Steve Turre, Jane Bunnett, Marcus and E.J Strickland, Jerry
Gonzalez, and Yosvany Terry. He has six record releases as leader, the two most
recent, The Infancia Project (2012)
and Links (2013), on Criss Cross
Jazz.
CHUCHO AVELLANET – In a rare New
York concert appearance, one of Puerto Rico’s best-loved singers collaborates
with resident composer/pianist Desmar
Guevara to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind experience! Expect old
favorites like “Jamás te
olvidaré,” “Acompáñame,” and “Magia
Blanca,” along with not-to-be-missed surprises. This is a specially

AMERICAN
HUMAN BEATBOX FESTIVAL –
Now in it’s 5th year, the fest showcases the variety of performance
styles and forms that give this genre is signature appeal. Expect a throw-down
