NY. SEA: La cucarachita Martina vuelve a escena a partir del 27 de febrero.

La Sociedad Educativa de las Artes, Inc. (Teatro SEA), bajo la dirección artística de Manuel A. Morán, se enorgullece en presentar La Cucarachita Martina / Martina, The Little Roach. 

Basada en un cuento folklórico de origen cubano y puertorriqueño, La Cucarachita Martina cuenta la historia de una cucarachita en búsqueda del amor, que en su viaje, descubre el valor de la felicidad y la amistad.

Los coloridos títeres estilo bunrakú, diseñados por el reconocido artista puertorriqueño José López, transportarán los niños a un mundo de sueño, donde podrán interactuar con los personajes y hasta entender el lenguaje de los animales a través del uso de sonidos musicales!

Todos disfrutarán en grande con la música Latina y Rock-n-Roll que forma parte de esta historia musical, la cual se ofrecerá tanto en inglés como en español.  Un evento especial para toda la familia, en donde todos gozarán en grande mientras aprenden sobre nuestra cultura hispana.

Tiene como materia básica la "conducción del actor", es decir, la orientación hacia la creación actoral del personaje, previo conocimiento de la dinámica técnica del trabajo del actor, la asunción de la creatividad actoral como un elemento insoslayable de la puesta en escena y el conocimiento de la acción como material de construcción del teatro. Todas las técnicas de dirección (teoría y práctica de la espacialidad; musicalidad, tiempo y ritmo; concreción material de la puesta en escena; técnicas complementarias (luz y sonido), se relacionan con lo actoral y tienen en el actor al protagonista vivo del teatro.

This concert is a celebration of Dominican folkloric as well as popular music, featuring performances of dances spectacularly choreographed by the renowned Dominican scholar, educator, and performer Maestro Leonardo Iván Domínguez and Conjunto Folklorico, whose repertoire includes more than 50 dances of Afro-Dominican and colonial Spanish heritage, such as merengue, bachata, vals, and mangulina. The music will be performed by La Camerata Washington Heights.

Caracas:la sociedad caótica de Paraíso Plo Plo Plo en la Sala Experimental del Celarg desde el 19 de febrero


Paraíso Plo Plo Plo, montaje teatral que muestra una sociedad caótica, donde reina el individualismo y la apatía, basado en textos de Bertolt Brecht, George Orwell, Julio Cortázar, Sigmund Freud, y Laurie Rowlands; escenificado por los estudiantes del Taller Integral de Formación Teatral, Cohorte 2014-2015, del Laboratorio Teatral Anna Julia Rojas, se presentará desde el viernes 19 de febrero hasta el domingo 13 de marzo, en la Sala Experimental de la Fundación CELARG, ubicada en la Avenida Luis Roche con Tercera Transversal, Altamira. Cerca de la Estación de Metro Altamira.

En “Paraíso Plo Plo Plo”, seis actores nos brindan una sátira tragicómica, sobre el mundo confuso, desorganizado, camino a la deshumanización de la sociedad en que vivimos. Se trata de improvisaciones de contenido social, tomadas de seis textos, escritos en distintos momentos del pasado siglo XX, que nos sorprenden por su vigencia.
                                           
Los textos
Carta desde el frente de un soldado inglés en Francia” (5 de febrero de 1918).Cansado de luchar en el frente Laurie Rowlands escribió una carta a su amada Alice, en la que puso de manifiesto sus temores y la baja moral de sus compañeros.

Carta de Sigmund Freud a Martha Bernays En cierta ocasión, Sigmund Freud le escribió a Martha Bernays, (su esposa durante 53 años), una carta de amor que dio la vuelta al mundo al ser considerada una de las confesiones más románticas de la historia.

Casa Tomada es quizás el cuento de Julio Cortázar, publicado en 1946, y luego en 1957 en Bestiario, que mayor cantidad de estudios ha generado. Entre los recursos que se harían habituales en el cuento de Cortázar se cuentan el uso de signos gráficos (en este caso, paréntesis) como reflejo de la censura.

Un poema de Bertolt Brecht: Algunas preguntas para un "hombre bueno" Para Bertolt Brecht el problema es la poesía, denunciar el dolor, hurgar en la herida. El poeta no lo es si pretende buscar las soluciones y se pierde en esa búsqueda, lo es cuando se hunde en los problemas.

Terror y Miserias del Tercer Reich, de Bertolt Brecht Se trata de escenas teatrales de pequeña extensión e independientes entre sí, en las que se muestra la vida cotidiana de la Alemania nazi, donde los personajes nos van revelando el clima de miedo y suspicacia que reinó, lleno de delaciones, antisemitismo, desconfianza, y violencia indiscriminada. 

1984, de George Orwell, es una novela política, escrita entre 1947 y 1948 y publicada el 8 de junio de 1949. La novela introdujo los conceptos del omnipresente y vigilante Gran Hermano o Hermano Mayor, de la notoria habitación 101, de la ubicua policía del Pensamiento y de la neolengua, adaptación del inglés en la que se reduce y se transforma el léxico con fines represivos, basándose en el siguiente principio: Lo que no está en la lengua, no puede ser pensado. Muchos analistas hablan de paralelismos entre la sociedad actual y el mundo de 1984, sugiriendo que estamos comenzando a vivir en lo que se ha conocido como sociedad orwelliana.

La labor del Laboratorio Teatral Anna Julia Rojas

ONE-DAY CASTING SEMINAR
Actors must come prepared with their headshot, resume, reel (if they have one) and a short monologue (no more than one minute in Spanish or English). The seminar will have three sections. First, a question-and-answer period with Juan Pablo Félix and his casting assistant. Second, monologue reviews in which you will be rated on your performance. Third, each student will have three minutes with Juan Pablo, one-on-one, to present his/her materials (reel if you have one, headshot, and resume). English- and Spanish-speaking actors welcome.

Juan Pablo Félix is an award-winning Colombian theater and film director and casting director. He is best known for casting the Oscar-nominated film María Full of Grace and the casting director/on-set coaching for "Los viajes del viento (Wind Journeys)", "Satanás", "La Pasión de Gabriel" and "Pablo Escobar: El Patrón Del Mal". He specializes in working with Latino actors and non-actors in film and television projects. Juan Pablo has been voted Top Guest Professor at the acclaimed Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba since 2010. He is a Fulbright Scholar with a B.A in Cinema Direction from La Universidad Nacional in Bogotá, Colombia and a Master of Fine Arts in Theater Direction from Columbia University.

The acclaimed workshop comes back to NYC!

"Menos es Más"
 (Spanish for "Less is More") is an Acting and Directing for the Camera workshop that consists of three (3) student directors and nine (9) actors.

Together, actors and directors will shoot three (3) scenes over the course of five (5) days, with a professional director of photography. Scenes are then edited and screened for an in-depth critique byJuan Pablo Félix, the instructor. Woven into the practice are various discussions and lectures that invite the professional to further explore his/her technique. Professionals walk away feeling challenged and better prepared to work collaboratively on set.

Encuentro de Teatristas Latinoamericanos y Caribeños 2016 Casa de las Américas, La Habana


La Casa de las Américas celebrará el Encuentro de Teatristas Latinoamericanos y Caribeños 2016 los días lunes 16 y martes 17 de mayo, dentro de la Temporada de Teatro Latinoamericano y Caribeño Mayo Teatral 2016, que se celebrará entre el 13 y el 22 de mayo, con la participación de destacados grupos y artistas de la región.

El Encuentro se extiende en esta ocasión a dos días y propicia el intercambio real entre todos los participantes en Mayo Teatral 2016. La primera sesión, en la mañana del día 16, estará dedicada al teatro de grupo e incluirá paneles en homenaje al Teatro La Candelaria, de Colombia, en su 50 cumpleaños; al Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani, del Perú, por sus 45 años, y al Teatro Gayumba, de la República Dominicana, por sus 40 de vida, todos participantes en la Temporada.

En las sesiones restantes se celebrará un coloquio en torno a temas como: Sobrevivir en grupo en el siglo XXI. Historia y presente; Grupo, compañía, proyecto y otras alternativas; El grupo, la creación colectiva y los procesos colaborativos; Investigación, ética y proyección; El actor en el teatro de grupo; Mujeres y teatro de grupo; El grupo y las nuevas escrituras; Escena y sociedad; Escena e identidad cultural, así como otras propuestas que contribuyan a enriquecer el intercambio.

Los interesados en presentar ponencias deberán enviar un resumen de no más de 300 palabras (título, nombre del autor e institución a la que pertenece, así como un breve currículum de 150 palabras) a los correos teatro@casa.cult.cu y conjunto@casa.cult.cu antes del 1ro. de marzo.

El 14 de marzo se darán a conocer los seleccionados. La inscripción en el Encuentro será de $50.00 CUC, a abonar entre el 13 y el 16 de mayo en la Casa de las Américas en horarios laborables. La acreditación incluye boletos para asistir a una selección de funciones de Mayo Teatral.

Durante la Temporada se realizarán desmontajes, demostraciones de trabajo y presentaciones de publicaciones teatrales abiertas a los participantes.

MIVOS QUARTET – “One of America’s most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles” (The Chicago Reader), the Mivos Quartet is dedicated to introducing audiences to new music. The quartet actively commissions and premieres new works, often collaborating with composers like Helmut Lachenmann, Alex Mincek, and Anna Clyne throughout the composition process. Presented in collaboration with Carnegie Hall and the Weill Music Institute’s Neighborhood Concert Series, and in partnership with the First Wednesdays Culture Trolley of Bronx Council on the Arts.


TIMBALAYE A septet with a Latin twist and a fresh innovative sound combines contemporary jazz with rhythmic elements from all over Latin America and Africa, as well as Cuba and Puerto Rico. Timbalaye was created by Ralph Irizarry, world renowned percussionist from Spanish Harlem who has performed, recorded and toured with Bebo Valdés, Harry Belafonte, David Byrne, Celia Cruz, Paquito D'Rivera, Juan Luis Guerra, Earl Klug, Israel “Cachao” López, Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, and other music giants!


MERAL GUNEYMAN – Turkish born jazz pianist Meral Guneyman's talents have won her numerous competitions and allowed her to perform around the globe as a soloist and with symphony orchestras in her pursuit in the advancement of contemporary music. Her recording of the Frank Bridge sonata was heralded as among the five best of the year by Fanfare Magazine.  "A pianist to be heard again at the earliest opportunity.” –Paul Hume of The Washington Post "Ms. Guneyman has an imposing technique and a delicate feel for timbre.” –Bernard Holland of The New York Times "Meral Guneyman possesses an exquisite touch, immense power and a formidable technique." –Peter Quinn of Jazzwise.


THE D.O.M.E. EXPERIENCE – Co-founded by bassist, vocalist, composer Mimi Jones, alongside jazz pianist, composer, educator Arcoiris Sandoval, D.O.M.E, or Dance Orchestration Media Environment, combines lush philharmonic jazz orchestra production, physical performance, and audiovisuals to create a consciousness-rich multi-sensory concert. D.O.M.E. lifts audiences into aesthetic reverie, environmental and social justice awareness, solidarity, and action!

DAYRAMIR GONZÁLEZ – The first Cuban artist to receive the prestigious Presidential Scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music, he studied jazz composition and piano performance. González has performed with luminaries like Chucho Valdez, Bebo Valdés, Ramón Valle, Omara Portuondo, Teresa Caturla, Ignacio Berroa, Eddie Palmieri, Larry Harlow, George Garzone, Christian McBride, Anat Cohen and Dave Liebman, and has collaborated with popular groups like Klimax and Habana de Primera.

STEVEN OQUENDO LATING JAZZ ORCHESTRA (SOLJO) – Formed in 2009, SOLJO is a 19-piece big band comprised of well-seasoned professional musicians hailed from the five boroughs of jazz-rich New York City and beyond. For more than five years, Oquendo and SOLJO have surprised and captivated audiences with their singular take on improvisation, fusion rhythms, and creative arrangements, spinning a 21st Century music for lovers of Afro Cuban and Latin Jazz, Salsa, and Palladium-era Mambo!

CARLOS CUEVAS Born in England and raised in Venezuela, Cuevas studied music at University of North Texas and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College-CUNY, where was recipient of the prestigious Sir Roland Hanna Memorial Jazz Award. His versatility is tested and proven in a slew of formidable collaborations, including work with NEA Jazz Master Hubert Laws, Bette Midler, Néstor Torres, The Los Angeles Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, and The New York Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. He released two albums, Depiction and Uninhibited Realm, to rave reviews from Downbeat, Keyboard, Modern Drummer, and Los Angeles Jazz Scene.

BRONX PIANO SUNDAYSDuring and beyond the month of March, BPS shines a spotlight on one of Pregones/PRTT’s prized possessions: our Steinway & Sons grand piano acquired with support from individual donors and Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz, Jr. Accomplished pianists are invited to perform works of all styles and eras on this magnificent concert hall instrument, custom selected to fit the unique dimensions and acoustic temperature of our Bronx theater. Concerts are presented on Sunday afternoons at 3, and are free of charge to the general public.
