December 6th: Hostos Center presents Teatro SEA’s My Superhero: Roberto Clemente.


The Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture (HCAC) presents Teatro SEA’s (Society of the  Educational Arts) musical “My Superhero: Roberto Clemente” on Saturday, December 6, at 3 PM in the Repertory Theater at Hostos Community College,450 Grand Concourse in the   Bronx.  Produced for the whole family to enjoy, the bilingual musical tells the story of the Puerto Rican baseball icon’s impact on a young boy named Bobby, and also on an encounter the Hall of Famer had with a disabled Nicaragua boy shortly before the humanitarian’s life was cut short in a plane crash in 1972.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 18, and are available through the Hostos Center Box Office, by calling 718-518-4455, or online at www.hostoscenter.org>
Premiered in June 2014 by Teatro SEA, “My Superhero: Roberto Clemente” is written and directed by Manuel Moran which features puppetry along with original music by Mora and Alejandro Zuleta.  Moran was a co-producer of the off-Broadway production of “DC-7: The Story of Roberto Clemente” and developed this version especially for young people. In a New York Daily News interview, Moran said that “our children need heroes, heroes that look like them, that sound like them.”  This will be the musical’s premiere in the Bronx.
Established in 1985, SEA is the premier Bilingual Arts-in-Education Organization and LatinoChildren’s Theatre in the United States.  SEA has created and produced a combination of educational theatre productions and art workshops/programs specifically designed to examine, challenge and create possible solutions for current educational, social and community issues. Its internationally celebrated programs include school, outdoor, community and Main stage performances, workshops and residencies, among others, reaching over 75,000 children and young adults every year.  In celebration of its 25th Anniversary, SEA opened a brand new state-of-the-art performance space at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Funding for Hostos Center’s presentation of “My Superhero: Roberto Clemente” is provided by the Hostos Community College Foundation with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the office of NYC Councilmember María del Carmen Arroyo, the office of New York State Assemblyman José Rivera, and the office of New York State Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo.
