En Caracas: Simón de Chocrón: de Buenos Aires al Celarg

Simón, de Isaac Chocrón, la obra que teatraliza las relaciones entre el joven Bolívar y su tutor, Simón Rodríguez, dirigida por Marcelo Mangone, una producción de F.A.C.T.A. (Federación Argentina de Cooperativas de Trabajadores Autogestionados), Hotel BAUEN Cooperativa de Trabajo y Colectivo S&V, se presentará en cuatro únicas funciones, los días jueves 15, viernes 16, sábado 17, a las ocho de la noche, y domingo 18 de noviembre, a las seis de la tarde, en la Sala de Teatro 1 de la Fundación Celarg, ubicada en Av. Luis Roche con 3ra Transversal de Altamira. Cerca de la Estación de Metro Altamira.

Simón, aborda los mecanismos dramáticos que se ponen en juego para que un hombre con una vida cómoda y resuelta se interne en los sinuosos laberintos de la lucha política y entregue su vida para liberar a los pueblos de América Latina.

Lo sorprendente en esta pieza, es que sigue con exactitud la historia bolivariana del período que transcurre de abril 1804 al 15 de agosto de 1805, día en que realiza el juramento en el Monte Sacro de Roma.

Un laborioso y prolijo recorrido que transcurre siguiendo los movimientos musicales de la sinfonía Heroica, de Beethoven, que con sus acordes poderosos, nos muestra, a doscientos años de distancia, la encarnizada lucha de un hombre con su destino.

El joven Simón Bolívar se encuentra en París en 1804 con su querido maestro Simón Rodríguez, ya convertido en Samuel Robinson, y entablan conversaciones en diferentes oportunidades sobre ellos y sobres sus ideas de libertad, conversaciones que terminan en Roma en 1805 con el juramento en el Monte Sacro.

Este encuentro histórico es presentado por Isaac Chocrón con mucho humor. El dramaturgo participa como un personaje oculto, vive las pasiones de los personajes, muestra su fidelidad a ellos, a sus principios y a sus sueños más tarde hechos realidad.

Simón la estrenó El Nuevo Grupo, en Caracas el 3 de marzo de 1983 en la desaparecida Sala Juana Sujo. Isaac Chocrón la escribió con motivo del Bicentenario del nacimiento de Simón Bolívar, a petición de José Ignacio Cabrujas, quien la dirigió. Fausto Verdial interpretó a Simón Rodríguez y Flavio Caballero encarnó a Bolívar. Se realizaron 75 funciones y la vieron 3446 espectadores.

En esta oportunidad, el cineasta y dramaturgo, Román Chalbaud, hará la presentación de la función de estreno, a manera de homenaje a la memoria de su amigo, Isaac Chocrón, considerado como uno de los pilares de la modernidad del teatro venezolano.

La producción de Simón se hizo posible gracias al esfuerzo de la Cooperativa de Trabajo Hotel Bauen, que desde el año 2003 es autogestionado por sus trabajadores, y la Federación Argentina de Cooperativas de Trabajo (FACTA), que promueve la autogestión como forma de organización económica y social.

La invitación es para disfrutar de las cuatro únicas funciones de Simón, los días jueves 15, viernes 16, sábado 17, 8:00pm, y domingo 18 de noviembre, 6:00pm, en la Sala de Teatro 1 de la Fundación Celarg, avenida Luis Roche con 3ra Transversal, Altamira. Los integrantes de Simón

Marcelo Mangone (Director). Director y Docente Teatral. Titular de la Cátedra de Actuación II de la UADER. Dicta clases en la UM, la UCES y en el posgrado de la UBA. Es docente director del Taller de Producción teatral del Centro Cultural Adan Buenosayres, dependiente del Ministerio de Cultura de CABA. Fundador del espacio de formación y producción teatral Teatristas del Imaginario. Comenzó su formación en el Conservatorio Nacional de Arte Dramático y completó sus estudios con maestros en el país y en el extranjero. Estreno más de treinta obras entre las que se destacan Huellas de Tinta de su autoría, Manifiesto vs Manifiesto, Salvavidas de Plomo, El Monje y María del Rosario. Participó como integrante y creador de los colectivos teatrales Proyecto puentes, Ciclo Nueve, y Proyecto Tres. Dictó seminarios de perfeccionamiento para actores en universidades de Argentina y de México, España, Puerto Rico, Colombia y Venezuela. Es miembro activo del colectivo nacional de docentes teatrales Dramatiza. Premio Teatro del Mundo que otorga la UBA por su obra El Monje. Nominado como mejor director por la obra El árbol, el loco, la muerta y la luna en el Festival Otoño Azul, y premio a la dirección y producción teatral en el Festival Universitario de Toluca, en México.

Fernando Martín (Actor). Se formó con destacados maestros del medio teatral argentino. Es actor, productor y gestor cultural. Trabajó en cine, radio, teatro y televisión. Es coordinador de espacios culturales del Ministerio de Cultura del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y gestor y productor de actividades culturales de FACTA, Federación Argentina de Cooperativas de Trabajadores Autogestionados. Participó como actor en más de cuarenta obras teatrales entre las que se destacan. Macbeth, El ahorcado, Sacco y Vanzetti, La Gaviota, La Sierva, Memorias de Praga y Woyzeck.

Carlos González (Actor). Se formó con Pompeyo Audivert en el Estudio Teatro El Cuervo y con Marcelo Mangone en el estudio Teatristas del Imaginario. Es docente de literatura formado en la Universidad de Filosofía y Letras de la UBA. Participó de varias piezas teatrales entre las que se distinguen: Un leve dolor de Harold Pinter, Museo Ezeiza de Pompeyo Audivert, Muñeca de Armando Discépolo, Muerte Rea de Antonio Botta, El Homosexual de Copi, y El silencio y la nada con textos en forma de monólogo de Lucía Laragione y Susana Torres Molina.

Carlos Di Pasquo. Arquitecto y escenógrafo. Desde 1980 ha trabajado en el diseño de escenografías y vestuarios para espectáculos en Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, España, Cuba; para los directores Juan Carlos Gené, Lorenzo Quinteros, Tanzim Townsend, Carlos Ianni, Manuel Gonzalez Gil, Javier Margulis, Julio Bacaro, Ricardo Lombardi, Héctor Rodríguez Manrique, Verónica Oddó, Francisco Javier, Carlos de Urquiza, etc.

NY: La India, Tito Rojas and Frankie Negrón at Lehman Center this Saturday November 10th

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts celebrates its 32nd season with the return Palooza, featuring three renowned Salsa singers – La India, Tito Rojas and Frankie Negrón – performing hit after hit from their spectacular careers on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 8pm. Grammy® Nominated La India brings her stunning Latin vocals to the Lehman Center Stage, alongside salsa crooner Tito Rojas and pop vocalist Frankie Negrón for one night only.

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts is on the campus of Lehman College/CUNY at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, NY 10468. La India, born in Puerto Rico, grew up in the South Bronx listening to recordings of Celia Cruz and Ella Fitzgerald. Discovered at age 15, she reached #1 on the Billboard Dance charts with hits like “Love and Happiness.” In 1992, Eddie Palmieri came to the studio to hear her for himself. When they recorded the amazingly popular Llegó La India via Eddie Palmieri, “The Princess of Salsa” had arrived in the world of Latin music. In 1994 she released her record-breaking album Dicen que soy, which went quadruple platinum in the US and Puerto Rico and resulted in four #1 Billboard Tropical singles and six Top Ten hits. With three GRAMMY® nominations and two Latin GRAMMY nominations, La India performed on Jazzin’, the hit album with Tito Puente and the Count Basie Orchestra, and La combinación perfecta, featuring her duet with Marc Anthony. The 2007 Latin Billboard Awards honored her with Best Female Tropical Album of the Year for Soy diferente and Latin Dance Club Play Track of the Year for “Solamente una noche.” In 2010 she released her ninth studio album, Unica, and her single “Estúpida,” released on iTunes, hit #1 on the tropical Billboard charts. In 2011, she released “Tacalacateo” as a collaboration with DJ Peppe Citarella. “Tacalacteo” peaked at #13 on the Billboard dance chart.

Tito Rojas known as “El gallo salsero” (the salsero rooster), was born in 1955 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, and began his professional music career in the 1970s, recording his first album with Pedro Conga y su Orquesta Internacional. He became lead vocalist with Conjunto Borincuba, led by Justo Betancourt, releasing “Con Amor” in 1978. Embarking on a solo career that year, Rojas recorded with the Fania All-Stars and released a couple of solo albums and the hit song “El campesino” before forming his own band, Conjunto Borincano. As lead vocalist for the Luis Ayala-led Puerto Rican Power, he scored hits with salsa versions of ballads “Noche de bodas” and “Quiéreme tal como soy.” In 1990 Rojas resumed his solo career and released the salsa romantica-styled Sensual, followed by Condename in 1992, and A Mi Estilo in 1994. He reached superstardom in 1995 when Por Derecho Propio sold double platinum, and he was awarded both Puerto Rico’s Paoli prize for “Best Salsa Artist” and New York’s ACE Award from entertainment critics. His success continued with the 1996 hit album Humildemente which included a track in memory of his friend, musical director Sammy Torres, and the following year with Pal’ pueblo, featuring the hit song “Lloro.” 1999 saw the release of three hit albums, and in 2002 Rojas and his band recorded Tito Rojas Live: Autenticamente En Vivo in Las Vegas with special guest Roberto Roena on bongos. His 2007 album Sin Commentario and 2009 album Vida are beloved by his fans. His most recent albumIndependiente was released in 2011.

Frankie Negrón, born in Newark, New Jersey of Puerto Rican descent, debuted in 1997 with the album Con Amor Se Gana, scoring a hit with the single “Inolvidable.” After making his Broadway debut in Paul Simon's musical "The Caperman” Negrón, also an accomplished songwriter, resurfaced in 1998 with No Me Compares, followed a year later by Lo Que Llevo por Dentro. Although he owes his musical career to the genre of tropical music, his most recent productions, Por Tu Placer, nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for “Best Salsa Album” in 2001, and Inesperado, stray slightly from the pure salsa format, vying for some mass market appeal by including a distinctive pop sound to his electrifying salsa groove. His three previous records, Con Amor Se Gana, No Me Compares and Lo Que Llevo Adentro have sold over a million copies worldwide for WEA Latina, the record company that first signed him. He holds four Platinum Record awards, one Gold Record award, one GRAMMY nomination, and two “greatest hits” albums, and his music dominates the airwaves of every Latin American country. His latest album, 2009’s Independence Day, received critical acclaim from the New York Times. Negrón has been featured on ABC’s “One Life to Live,” and sang his Spanglish hit “Holding On to Love” on the popular show.

There was once a prince named Azulito, who along with his beloved Princess Perlita, happily awaits the arrival of their first baby. Not only are they happy because of this, but also because they just bought the fastest horse in the world, 'Lightning'.

Unfortunately not all is happiness because the villainous and mischievous Cuchiflín, along with his pet snake Serpentine, plan to steal the Prince’s baby. With the help of the children in the audience, the baby thwarts Cuchiflín’s attempt, making him and the children the heroes of this tale.

Filled with color, laughter and amusing puppets, the play captivates the children's imagination from beginning to end.

This is an introductory workshop to understand how voice works and how to improve it by relying on your inner sensations, your own observations and your own thinking as you go through a series of lessons. This workshop is an overview to vocal functioning applying the principles of the Feldenkrais Method. Reprogramming the neurological patterns that build our vocal function, will give the opportunity to improve the foundation upon which your voice is build on and therefore, naturally, because there is a natural process, your voice will re-emerge with new qualities and possibilities.

We start working in Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons applying the Feldenkrais Method, to get in contact with the feelings/sensations of your body. A body with no muscle tension and a functional use of the breath allows vibrations to travel with no constrains, facilitating the voice to fully emerge. This workshop explores some of the movements and sounds that we used in our childhood to develop our voices, and we will take advantage of them to expand our vocal abilities.

The workshop continues with the stimulation of the intuitive, emotional and conceptual aspects of your voice through exercises, using texts, wordless sounds and collective voice improvisation. This process gives a time for experimentation in order to discover the flexibility and capabilities of the voice as a sound source. The workshop also helps to develop voice's expression and creativity.

This is a one day workshop (4 hours total) and it is recommended for all those interested in the health, quality, power and expressivity of the voice in singing and speaking (in the areas of performing arts, personal growth, health, and all people using their voice as a tool in their professions).

Handouts will be distributed during the workshop.

Sabrina Lastman (Uruguay/Israel) is a vocalist, composer and voice/singing educator. She is a Feldenkrais Method Awareness Through Movement (ATM) Authorized Teacher from The Feldenkrais Institute of New York, and a music graduated from The Jerusalem Academy of Music & Dance in Israel. Sabrina concentrates her musical work on the creation of interdisciplinary performances combining voice, sound, movement and visuals, and in contemporary jazz projects. In the USA, she has taught at the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA), IATI Theater, Middlebury College, Portland Arts & Technology School, Movement Research, New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW), CAVE Arts, Actors Movement Studio, La TEA Theater, Art for Change, Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, The Brecht Forum, Multicultural Music Group, and privately at her own studio. Ballet Hispánico, recognized as the premier Latino dance institution in the United States, presents the dance event of the holiday season at the legendary Apollo Theater on December 1, 2012 at 7:30 pm. The Apollo Theater is located at 253 West 125th Street, New York City. The evening features three Ballet Hispánico premieres that put a contemporary spin on Cuba's danzón, Argentina's tango, and 1980s Spanish pop. Vibrant live music by the Paquito D'Rivera Ensemble accompanies choreography by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, Argentinean legend Alejandro Cervera and cutting-edge Spanish choreographers Inma García and Meritxell Barberá.

"The Apollo is a true birthplace of music and innovation," said Eduardo Vilaro, Artistic Director of Ballet Hispánico. "I am thrilled to build on its rich history of artistic collaboration with Ballet Hispánico's return this year alongside Paquito D'Rivera, one of the Latin jazz greats."

A vueltas con los ochenta (World Premiere)

Choreography by Inma García and Meritxell Barberá.

García and Barberá's first work for Ballet Hispánico uses contemporary dance to evoke the sights and sounds of the cultural revolution in 1980s Madrid known as "La Movida." From the impulsive, spontaneous movements of each dancer to the beats of electronic pop music that fill the stage, this piece recreates the memory of one night of freedom, exploration, and invention lived by a young group of friends.

Tango Vitrola (Company Premiere)

Choreography by Alejandro Cervera.

Turning tango on its head, Alejandro Cervera conjures a metaphysical space that highlights the struggle between men and women through simple yet poetic patterns.

Danzón with live music by the Paquito D'Rivera Ensemble (New York Premiere)

Choreography by Eduardo Vilaro.

Initially evolved from Haitian contradance, the Danzón has been called the official dance of Cuba. Eduardo Vilaro has taken this traditional and quintessentially Cuban dance form and reinvented it with contemporary movements to construct a bold work of art for this generation.

Paquito D'Rivera defies categorization. Born in Havana, Cuba, he began performing at an early age, and studied at the Havana Conservatory of Music. As solo clarinetist and saxophonist, he performed with many orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Costa Rica National Symphony, and the St. Luke's Chamber Orchestra. Among his honors, are a 2007 Guggenheim Fellowship in Music Composition, and an appointment as the 2007-2008 Composer-in-Residence at Caramoor.

He received his 10^th and 11^th Grammy this year for Panamericana Suite as Best Latin Album and Best Classical Contemporary Composition, adding to his previously awarded 8^th and 9^th GRAMMY for Riberas (Best Classical Recording) and Funk Tango (Best Latin Jazz Album 2008). A recipient of an NEA Jazz Masters award 2005 and the National Medal for the Arts 2005, Kennedy Center Living Jazz Legend 2007, Guggenheim Fellowship 2007, Frankfurt Musikpreis 2008, Nelson Rockefeller Honoree 2010. He also writes social commentary and has written three books.
