Pregones Theater Presents 2012 Repertory Remix



Pregones Theater’s 33rd Fall Season kicks off with  Repertory Remix – three popular musical productions will run from November 1st , through December 2nd. DANCING IN MY COCKROACH KILLERS, EL APAGON/THE BLACKOUT and  BAILE CANGREJERO come to life with an amazing cast and music ensemble! Accessible ticket prices – a feature of Pregones Theater – make it possible for residents of twelve select zip codes in The Bronx, East Harlem, and Washington Heights to see any of the productions for as little as $12. All performances are at Pregones Theater, 575 Walton Avenue, just south of Yankee Stadium and east of the Gateway Mall at Bronx Terminal Market. DANCING IN MY COCKROACH KILLERS  - November 1st – December 2nd
Written by Magdalena Gómez, directed by Rosalba Rolón and with musical compositions by Desmar Guevara. Eight performances, including three matinees, have been scheduled to meet the needs of a broad sector of our very active audience.  Dancing In My Cockroach Killers is a musical with attitude! An insightful, original  and  breathtaking collection of stories. A ferocious cast and music ensemble brings the entire City and its people to the stage!
Dancing In My Cockroach Killers will be performed mostly in English and Spanish with dual language projected titles. Runtime is 65 minutes.

EL APAGON/THE BLACKOUT
– November 3rd thru 27
Back by popular demand! Pregones Theater’s stage adaptation of the story La noche que volvimos a ser gente (The Night We Became People Again) by José Luis González. 
The Story:
While riding the New York subway uptown from Brooklyn to El Barrio, and eager to witness the birth of his firstborn, two friends are caught in the Great Northeastern Blackout. A paean to the courage, humor and humanity of migrant experience, the show is one of Pregones’ most enduring and popular creations.
Directed by Jorge B. Merced, with musical direction by Desmar Guevara, both award-winning Pregones artists. The show features Pregones Ensemble, including a 4-piece live music band. El Apagón/The Blackout will be performed in English and Spanish with dual language projected supertitles. Runtime is 60 minutes.

BAILE CANGREJERO – November 7 thru 30
Back by popular demand! BAILE CANGREJERO sets the great masters of Afro-Latino poetry to the dynamic rhythms of bomba, plena, and bolero. This vibrant spectacle touches on the history, popular culture, and literary imagination of the Americas including musicalizations of works by Julia de Burgos, Luis Palés Matos, Fortunato Vizcarrondo (Puerto Rico); Nicolás Guillén (Cuba); Nicomedes Santa Cruz (Peru); and Manuel del Cabral (Dominican Republic). Directed by Jorge B. Merced. Musical Direction by Desmar Guevara. Featuring Antonio Vargas, Yaremis Félix, and the musicians of Pregones Theater. Baile Cangrejero will be performed in English and Spanish with dual language projected titles. Runtime is 65 minutes.
