Collection and the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center
cordially invite to view a cross-section of Puerto Rican contemporary art from
the highly regarded José Hernández Castrodad Collection. Hernández Castrodad, a collector
and an advocate for contemporary artists in Puerto Rico, exhibits part of his
collection for the first time in New York City.
The exhibit
presents provocative works from twenty renowned and emerging Puerto Rican artists with a focus on urban Caribbean space(s), both
intimate and public. The
selected works explore these spaces from multiple stances,
the physical, personal, psychological
and sociological. The show examines a range of issues from negligence in urban planning and
the resultant overcrowding to individual and collective transformation in the
Caribbean. Some of the many buzzed about exhibiting artists
include, Jesús “Bubu” Negrón, Sofía Maldonado, Karlo Andrei Ibarra and Josué
Pellot.
